Human Trafficking

Since our establishment in 2002, UNANIMA International has contributed to significant advocacy efforts to eradicate human trafficking.

Human Trafficking, the action or practice of illegally transporting people from one country or area to another, typically for the purposes of forced labor or sexual exploitation is a global issue. Out of a reported 4 million people who are trafficked annually both within and outside their country, 80% are women and girls and 50% are children. Over 90% of trafficked persons are sexually exploited.

Human TraffickingSince our establishment in 2002, UNANIMA International has contributed to significant advocacy efforts to eradicate human trafficking. As part of UNANIMA International’s past work on the NGO Committee to Stop Trafficking in Persons and the NGO Working Group on Girls, we have pursued the recognition and protection of the rights of these women and children.

We also have an ongoing international campaign to STOP THE DEMAND for Trafficking in Women and Children. UNANIMA is also cited on the Bakhita Initiative, a site that organizes and disseminates material on advocacy and educational resources from various congregations of women religious. UNANIMA International continues to Advocate for the eradication of Trafficking through the lens of Homelessness and Displacement.
