COP21 Update – Monday, November 30
UNANIMA International is fortunate to have representatives attending the 2015 Climate Change Conference in Paris (known as COP21). We will be posting daily updates here on our website. For more information on the Conference, see: http://www.cop21paris.org/
And today it was the leaders’ turn. Civil Society mostly watched from overflow rooms or followed the webcast. There was remarkable agreement among the leaders on the following points:
-THE TIME FOR CLIMATE DENIAL IS OVER; THIS IS THE TIME TO ACT
-We need to do this for our children
-We need to reach a binding agreement
-Global South countries have contributed the least to greenhouse gas emissions, but will suffer the most from Climate Change
-The dots are connected–climate change leading to destabilization, war, violence, and migration
-Climate Change is the biggest threat the world is facing.
There was also great unanimity in expressions of gratitude to France for their courage in continuing to hold the conference in light of their recent tragedies from terrorist activity.
