Woman of Courage 2013
And speaking of Women of Courage, meet Margaret Mary Issaka, who received her award for UNANIMA Woman of Courage for 2013 at the final festive meal of the Ghana workshop. (The award is a flame-like copper sculpture mounted on a wooden base, with an inscription). As educator, community organizer, and activist, she has spent most of her life empowering women, especially battered women, and working to ensure clean drinking water and sanitation in rural areas of northern Ghana. She gave credit to her mother, who endured the scorn of neighbors for having seven girls!
