UN NGO DPI Conference

The UN Department of Public Information (DPI) and Civil Society (that’s us) are preparing for the 65th Annual DPI NGO Conference ondpingo logo August 27-29, titled “2015 and Beyond: Our Action Agenda.” Remember, by 2015 the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)were supposed to be accomplished—extreme poverty and hunger eradicated, universal primary education achieved, child mortality reduced, material health improved, major diseases eradicated, environmental sustainability ensured, and global partnerships for development established! Well, we know that did not all get done, though many countries effectively used the MDGs as targets to achieve great improvements. At this conference we are going to look at the role of civil society in the post-2015 development agenda and prepare to give input into the intergovernmental negotiations on this topic. We know that the newly-formulated draft of the Sustainable Development Goals will play an important role in these negotiations, and we hope to hold onto the gains we have made and press for even stronger expressions of human rights and human needs.
