Presenting the CSA

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Agnes

We are women who have responded to God’s call to live the evangelical counsels of celibate chastity, poverty and obedience. Our life in community supports both our spiritual life and ministry. “We envision community to be a sign of the presence of Christ among us and a source of great apostolic power.” (CSA Constitutions, 39)

We are women who live, love, and serve in 18 states throughout the United States, Nicaragua and Honduras. We also collaborate with associates who believe in our charism and who also commit themselves wholeheartedly to our mission.

We, sisters and associates, are committed to ministries that respond to the Church’s call to hear the cry of the poor, and are called to respond particularly to those whose faith life or human dignity is threatened:

  • by working against the demand for trafficking of women and children through presentations, letter writing, and supporting Tyler Donahue who gave  workshops in Kenya, East Africa;
  • by taking shareholder action through the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) on issues such as water, ethical sales of weapons.
  • by working against the death penalty;
  • by networking with other groups such as the  Leadership Conference of  Women Religious in the U.S., Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice, 8th Day Center, United for Diversity;
  • by being non-violent in work and action; and
  • by working to close the School of the Americas (SOA)

We are women who celebrate as founding members of UNANIMA INTERNATIONAL, in working at the international level for systemic change with the United Nations.
