feb3The UN is not all black suits. Last November 25, to celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we were invited to “Orange Our Neighborhoods” to protest violence against women and girls. In the UN the name signs at each place bore the social media “hashtag” seen in the picture, saying to “Orange Your Hood.” Orange flags, orange signs, and women wearing orange were all over New York City and the UN. The photo shows a UN event where the head of UN Women and the wife of the mayor of New York City (at the front, all wearing orange!) signed a special declaration. Every Thursday you can find some people at the UN wearing orange. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon wears his orange pin, and declares: “Break the silence! When you witness violence against women and girls, do not sit back. Act.”
