Mining Event in Toronto

Mary Corbett, UNANIMA representative for the CND, has been on the planning group for the ecumenical conference on mining from 1-3 May 2011, in Toronto, CANADA. Church leaders from Canada, Africa, Asia, and Latin America will participate in the conference planned by KAIROS and several of its member institutions, in partnership with Norwegian Church Aid. It is intended to increase the capacity of churches and faith based organizations to speak about mining from a theological and ethical perspective, informed by first hand testimonies of communities impacted by mining. The general public is invited to a panel discussion on Monday, May 2, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. Entitled: ‚ÄúResource Conflicts and Indigenous Rights,” the discussion will feature input from prominent Indigenous church leaders from the global South, followed by responses from Canadian Indigenous leaders For more information click here. http://ottawa.mcc.org/stories/news/ecumenical-conference-mining-public-event-announced
