The UN Commission on the Status of Women has for its theme this year “Violence Against Women.” The UN community acknowledges it is a violation of human rights and a world-wide, major obstacle to achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women–harming not only women, but also their families and communities. It has significant economic costs for society, and restricts economic growth and development. UNANIMA communities will be represented at CSW by 20 people (the maximum we can have). Michele Morek submitted a written intervention on “Ending the Demand for Trafficking in Girls,” and UNANIMA is presenting a side event on the Kenya Project (see below).
