Another Word on CSW

Well, there were some triumphs and some failures, as usual. You can find the document that came out of the 58th Commission on the Status of Women by going to this link, which has Spanish and French translations:    Click on the button for “Commission on the Status of Women” and then on “CSW 2014” to find a link to the “agreed conclusions.”

In paragraph 24 covering HIV/AIDS there is no mention of women in prostitution, nor any mention of “sex work.” We consider the omission of the words “sex workers” a huge victory—as you may remember, anti-trafficking groups are opposed to that language. People from all over the world are working on this, and several European countries including France and Ireland are considering adopting the Nordic Model (prosecuting the users, brothel owners, and pimps, while supporting victims and empowering them beyond prostitution and exploited labor).
