NGO DPI Conference Activity
At the end of August the UN hosted the DPI NGO Conference, the first to be held in New York for the past seven years. Over 3,000 NGO representatives from around the world converged at the UN for this event. In addition to official presentations and other events, the Congregation of Notre Dame and The Maryknoll Office for Global Concern offered a side event on “Sustainability and Nuclear Weapons?” which UNANIMA co-sponsored. The panelists included Marie Dennis, the co-president of Pax Christi, and Jonathan Granoff, a Nobel Peace Prize Nominee. There were over 75 participants, with standing room only. The panel was introduced by Stacy Hanrahan CND, (picture) the President of the UNANIMA board of directors.
