Delegation to the annual UN
DPI Conference
As reported in our last update UI had a lively delegation of 5 Latin American women to the 58th annual UN DPI Conference of 7-9 September:
Our Challenge: Voices for Peace, Partnerships and Renewal. Because of their presence we now have women from Argentina, Chile,
Nicaragua, Peru, and Mexico, who know first hand the work of the UN and UI. We look forward to future collaboration with them at future UN events.
Attached are testimonies from Marta Alvear, SP, Rosa Maria Eubanks, CCV, and Maria Teresa Andant, SUSC. We include the others in a
subsequent update.
Anti-Trafficking Efforts
In a follow-up to the anti-trafficking session held last January by UNANIMA International in New York during the CEDAW meeting, board members
determined to develop a campaign to work against the demand for trafficking and prostitution. During the next several months be alert to the details
of this campaign as they develop.
New – Rosary Meditations
for Trafficking
Once translations are
completed, UNANIMA International members will be receiving meditations on the
theme of anti-trafficking of human beings as reflections while meditating the
mysteries of the Rosary. We especially invite members and others to use them
during the months of October and May.
Request for Information
on Violence Against Women
Through an ON-LINE DISCUSSION ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN the
UN Division for the Advancement of Women is gathering information for the
Secretary General’s upcoming report on Violence against women. It is not too
late to register for the discussion and to encourage others to participate. For
