Another Year at the UN!

Things are back to normal now, with flags flying, delegates hurrying to meetings, and NGO committees hard at work. One of the biggest events at the UN was the celebration of October 17, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Extreme poverty may be the greatest cause of violence in the world.

Take note: UNANIMA communities ministering in West Africa! Holy Child Sister Cecilia Nya, UNANIMA office staff, and some young people who came to New York for an UNANIMA workshop a few years ago are organizing a workshop on human trafficking. It will be held in Tamale, Ghana, but youth and other participants will be coming from Nigeria and (we hope) neighboring countries.

Our 5th Year of Water

For the last year of our five-year plan for UNANIMA’s activities around water, the board decided to be a “Promoter” for Water With Blessings (and their Facebook page). Women are at the heart of this organization’s mission to bring clean water to families in developing countries.

Success story

Sometimes we need to celebrate UN successes…on September 16 we celebrated the Silver Jubilee of the most successful treaty in UN history: the Montreal Protocol on ozone depletion—it achieved universal ratification and met its goals ahead of schedule.
